Netscape Netcenter Visitors Take Stock in Personal Finance Investor Challenge
Six-Week Contest Provides Visitors to Netcenter's Redesigned Personal Finance Channel with the Opportunity to Win Valuable Online Trading Accounts
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, - SEPTEMBER 20, 2000 - Netscape Communications, a subsidiary of America Online Inc. (NYSE: AOL), is kicking off the re-launch of Netcenter's® comprehensive Personal Finance area with a Personal Finance Investor Challenge. The Challenge, which runs through October 31st, allows Netcenter users to play the market, giving them a shot at winning one of three online trading accounts and other prizes.
The six-week promotional sweepstakes will allow Netcenter users to become familiar with the features and benefits of the new Personal Finance area (http://personalfinance.netscape.com/finance/main.tmpl) on the site. Beginning with a new look and feel, the easy-to-navigate Personal Finance area includes features that are tightly integrated into core Netscape services including Netscape Instant Messager 4.0, Netscape Message Boards, WebMail, WebCalendar and the Netscape 6 and Navigator browsers.
Visitors to the Personal Finance area can quickly register for the Challenge and begin picking their portfolio of stocks. Once registered, participants receive an $80,000 fantasy account to spend on eight different stocks from pre-selected groupings, investing $10,000 fantasy dollars in each. Participants can select new stocks each day or hold them for as long as they like, tracking their performance on a personal portfolio page. Challenge participants can also register to create a private Investor Challenge, each with its own private message board, where they can compete against friends, family and co-workers.
Challenge scores are determined by the net change in the value of the stocks in a portfolio at the end of each trading day. The participant with the highest fantasy account balance at the end of the contest will receive a $10,000 online trading account. The second and third highest fantasy account balances at the end of the contest will receive $5,000 and $2,000 accounts. Each trading week the three participants who have accumulated the highest positive change in their fantasy account balances will each receive a one-year subscription to Fortune Magazine.
"The objective for the Personal Finance area on Netcenter has always been to establish a central location where users have easy access to the market information, financial research and business news they need to make informed decisions about their money," said Susan Mernit, Vice President of Programming at Netscape. "With the tight integration of Netscape tools and services into the new Personal Finance area, Netcenter users can now create a personal all-in-one destination to manage their finances."
One of the most comprehensive and timely sources of financial information and data on the Internet, Netscape Netcenter's Personal Finance area provides each registered user with a free, personalized portfolio manager enabling them to centralize all of their diverse holdings and track the performance of specific investments. In addition, Netcenter users can have their portfolios analyzed with the new Portfolio Forecaster feature, giving them an idea of how their portfolios might grow in years to come. Extensive investment research is also easy to access on the redesigned page including stock and mutual fund data, charts, corporate profiles, market news, and a wealth of investment advice.
Sweepstakes rules and regulations can be found at http://investorchallenge.netscape.com/stock00/cgi/template.cgi?tool_id=rules. The contest ends October 31, 2000.
