Netscape Teams With AOL To Offer Extensive Online Coverage Of The 2000 Republican And Democratic National Political Conventions
Co-Branded Area on Netcenter to Provide the At-Work Audience with Direct Access to the Convention Floor through Live Streaming Audio and Video and Interactive Political Programming
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 27, 2000 - Netscape Communications, a subsidiary of America Online, Inc. (NYSE: AOL), today announced that it will provide Netscape® visitors with access to AOL's groundbreaking gavel-to-gavel coverage of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions this summer.
Beginning July 31st with the opening of the Republican convention in Philadelphia, Netscape visitors will be able to access extensive video and audio feeds of all Convention proceedings, live interviews with top newsmakers, behind-the-scenes delegate diaries, interactive polls, trivia quizzes and unique opportunities for online interaction via a AOL/Netscape co-branded area on Netcenter site.
"The at-work Internet audience is increasingly accessing streaming audio and video content through high-speed connections at the office in an attempt to stay connected throughout the day," said Jim Martin, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Netscape. "By offering direct access to AOL's convention coverage, Netscape is providing the daytime Internet user with direct access to activities inside and outside the convention hall making Netcenter the Web's one-stop source for convention coverage."
Coverage on Netcenter begins with the Republican Convention in Philadelphia (July 31 - August 3) and continues through the Democratic Convention in Los Angeles (August 14 - 17). Elements of the Convention programming produced by AOL and carried on Netscape, will include:
ConventionCam providing round-the-clock shots of the Convention Halls, beginning the day before each Convention and running until the gavel falls five days later. Netscape visitors will be able to click on the ConventionCam anytime during Convention week to get shots of whatever is going on in the Hall.
Delegate Diaries with daily firsthand accounts from a number of Convention Delegates. The Diaries will take members behind the scenes into the daily Convention activities of a Convention Delegate.
Daily Pre-Game Show featuring interviews with journalists, newsmakers and other Convention personalities as well as interactive polls, trivia quizzes and more. The show, hosted by AOL's Director of Political Programming Kathleen deLaski, will be webcast prior to each night's prime-time speeches.
Special Convention News area showcasing the latest stories from each Convention as well as schedules of events, biographies on key players and Convention rules.
Live Event Coverage providing users with quick links to additional information about the speakers, candidates, and newsmakers to enhance the online Convention experience.
Streaming Video and Audio of all Convention proceedings. Full-motion video and broadband-enhanced Convention programming for those who have access to high-speed connections.
