Netcenter's Site Central Delivers the Resources Needed to Create, Manage and Promote a Web Site

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (April 21, 1999) - Netscape, a subsidiary of America Online, Inc. (NYSE: AOL) today announced the debut of Netscape Site Central, a free Netcenter service that enables members to quickly and easily create a Web site. Available now in beta version, Site Central provides Netcenter members with the tools and visual content needed to create a Web site that stands out on the Internet. In addition, a variety of services are available to help users maintain and promote their sites. To visit Site Central, click the 'Home Pages' link on Netcenter's home page at http://home.netscape.com.

"Site Central provides Netcenter professionals with the tools needed to take full advantage of the Internet as a powerful means of communication," said Mike Homer, senior vice president and general manager of Netscape Netcenter. "We believe that with the right selection of tools, visual content and services even a novice user can create a Web site that gets noticed on the Internet, and that reflects an individual's personality or business image."

Site Central's easy-to-use page building tools enable any Netcenter member to create a Web site in minutes. Members can create a page from scratch, or choose from a number of 'sample page' templates to make the process even easier. No HTML knowledge or previous Web page building experience is required, and no additional software or plug-ins are needed. If a Web site has already been created using a commercial software program, it can be easily uploaded and hosted by Site Central. Netscape Composer users can take advantage of the one-button publishing feature, which allows them to publish pages directly to Site Central with just one click.

Site Central offers a breadth of content to help members create pages that get noticed. Users can choose from thousands of free images, including clip art, web art and photographs, or upgrade their graphics resources to include more than 750,000 images for an optional fee. Users can also choose from a selection of dynamic content, including automatically-updated sports scores and news headlines. A feature unique to Site Central allows members to create their own dynamic content 'channel' which can be shared with other members, providing easy access to hundreds of different content offerings.

Once a site is created, Site Central makes it easy for members to promote and maintain it. Each user receives promotional listings in the Site Central Directory, a collection of member Web sites that will feature over 65,000 topic categories so members are sure to find the right category for their site. To further promote their site, members can make their content channels available to the millions of My Netscape and Site Central users.

Additional Site Central services include: !RegisterIt! which enables members to register their site with search engines. Hitometer analyzes web site traffic to learn more about site visitors, and Tune Up helps improve performance by testing for spelling and link problems, browser compatibility and download performance. Each service offers a free version, with optional fee-based upgrades available, which is attractive to small businesses interested in running their business on the Web.
