Netscape and Thomson Financial Services Announce Agreement to Enhance Personal Finance Channel on Netscape Netcenter

Agreement Names Thomson Investors Network Exclusive Provider of Free Real-Time Quotes for Netscape Netcenter; Other Thomson Divisions to Use Netscape Commerce Software to Expand Internet Presence

Mountain View, CA and Rockville, MD (February 3, 1999) - Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDQ: NSCP) and Thomson Financial Services (TFS) today announced an agreement to make Thomson Investors Network Real Time Quotes the exclusive provider of real-time market quotes within the Personal Finance Channel of Netscape Netcenter. This agreement enables Netscape to offer free real-time quotes to individual investors through the Netscape Netcenter portal, thus taking a significant step in breaking down the barriers between professional and personal investors. In addition, the two firms have entered a multi-year agreement that will enable other Thomson companies to utilize Netscape's e-commerce software to further advance their Internet publishing efforts.

Real-time quotes are available today on Netscape Netcenter as part of the Netcenter Personal Finance Channel. In addition, Thomson Investors Network will provide financial content from other TFS units, including corporate fundamental information, First Call earnings information, CDA/Spectrum institutional holdings information, Investnet insider information, SEC/EDGAR filings, company alerts, mergers and acquisition information, top performer lists, and corporate analysis.

This agreement is designed to bring the highest-quality professional market information to Netscape Netcenter, one of the highest trafficked sites on the Web. "Individuals are taking more interest and control over their wealth creation and wealth preservation goals," said Ray Kingman, president of Thomson Investors Network. "This new agreement extends our reach and empowers the individual investor by providing the same quality information professional investment managers use."

In addition to the Netcenter agreement, the two companies have signed a licensing agreement that will make Netscape's e-commerce software available to multiple Thomson divisions. First Call, a TFS unit, plans to go live with Netscape Application Server to deliver real-time access to earning reports over the Internet. Other Thomson groups capitalizing on the software include The Medical Economics division, which is giving health care professionals online access to publications like The Physicians Desk Reference, and Thomson & Thomson, which is building an easy to use system for searching trademarks.

"Thomson has taken an aggressive and innovative approach to moving traditional paper-based publishing online, with the help of Netscape technology" said Maria Wilhelm, senior vice president of programming at Netscape. "Thomson's real-time quote service will help take personal finance on Netcenter to a new level, helping us meet our goal of empowering the personal investor."

This agreement and the launch of real-time quotes on the Netcenter Personal Finance Channel furthers both TFS's and Netscape's presence in the growing online financial portal market. For Thomson Investors Network, which will now promote its real-time quotes and financial information to millions of consumers through Netcenter, the agreement is expected to increase advertising revenues and brand awareness. Under the agreement, Thomson Investors Network receives branding on all pages that feature its content.
