Netegrity's Award-Winning SiteMinder and Netscape Directory Server Deliver Critical Infrastructure for Large E-Commerce
Applications
WALTHAM, Mass. (January 12, 1999) - Netegrity, Inc. (NASDAQ: NETE), a leading provider of software and services for controlling user access to electronic-commerce applications, and Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced a worldwide agreement whereby Netscape will resell Netegrity's award-winning SiteMinder secure user-management software. Under this strategic agreement, Netscape will offer Netegrity's secure user management solution, which has been tightly integrated with Netscape Directory Server to deliver a comprehensive, scalable, and robust solution for customers building web-based e-commerce applications.
This agreement builds on Netegrity's previously announced agreement with Netscape's Government Group and will be phased in over 1999. Effective immediately, Netegrity and Netscape will jointly focus on delivering web-based e-commerce applications to select domestic Fortune 500 customers in addition to U.S. federal, state, and local governments.
"Customers deploying web-based e-commerce applications have expressed a strong need for centralized access control and single sign-on," said David Weiden, vice president of Netscape's Directory Server and security products. "SiteMinder allows us to offer an integrated solution that meets the significant scalability and security requirements of customers operating strategic e-commerce web sites."
"This agreement greatly expands the market for SiteMinder and further solidifies its position as a leading secure user-management system in the industry today," said Barry N. Bycoff, CEO and president, Netegrity, Inc. "We are pleased to be teaming with Netscape to deliver enterprise customers the solutions they need to build secure e-commerce and customer relationship applications as they increasingly deploy intranet and extranet technologies."
Ideal for companies conducting business on the web, the combination of Netscape Directory Server and SiteMinder offers a comprehensive secure user-management solution by providing centralized access control and single web sign-on across
According to the May 1998 report "Scaling Extranets" from Forrester Research, more than half of the Fortune 1000 are using extranets today and more than 80 percent are planning to offer them within the next two years. The report asserts that deployments are small today, but as businesses strive for improved communication with partners and long-term cost savings, extranets will explode. Forrester concludes that IT needs an architecture that will allow it to delegate day-to-day extranet administration to business units yet provides enough centralized control for it to monitor and troubleshoot the systems.
