MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (December 21, 1998) - Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:NSCP) today announced its growing enterprise momentum, with more than 52 leading vendors building on, integrating, or delivering Netscape Enterprise Software to help enterprises compete in the Net Economy. Specifically, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), Internet service providers (ISPs), systems integrators (SIs), value added resellers (VARs) and independent software vendors (ISVs) are working with Netscape to deliver enterprise solutions using Netscape's scalable software products. They include: IBM, Bull, Compaq, SCO, Sequent Computer Systems, Siemens A.G., Silicon Graphics, Sun Microsystems, Qwest, Netcom, Fabrik, France Telecom, Hong Kong Telecom, KPN Telecom, Grant Thornton, NetExplorer, Sierra Systems, Intraware, Annuncio Software, Attachmate, Baltimore Technologies, Blue Lobster Software, Check Point Software Technologies, Clockware, Conextions, EnterpriseLink, FutureTense, Kanisa, Icarian, Information Advantage, Information Builders, Insession, Kanisa, Inc., nCipher, Neta, Inc., Netegrity, Oblix, Oracle Corporation, PDX, PeopleSoft, Persimmon IT, Relativity Technologies, SAP, SASH Communications, Secure Computing, Security Dynamics, TransLink, VeriSign, Vertex Industries, VIE Systems, VPNet, and Wall Data, Inc.
As a result, dozens of companies, including Booz-Allen & Hamilton, Citibank, 3Com, Oakley, Inc., Federal Express, John Hancock, Nortel/Bay Networks, Standard & Poor's and Visteon Automotive Systems, are creating, managing, and leveraging technologies in new ways and erasing the boundaries between themselves, partners, suppliers and customers.
Netscape outlined its Net Economy strategy, aimed at enabling companies to build, buy, or outsource the software and services they need to compete successfully in the Net Economy, in June 1998. Since then, Netscape has aligned its partnerships, products, services, and people to assist companies in transforming their business from a traditional company with brick-and-mortar assets to an Internet-based business as company.com.
"We are witnessing a modern-day shakeup, with businesses rushing to stake out their territory on the Net," said Jim Barksdale, president and chief executive officer of Netscape. "Businesses are realizing that the Net Economy is about more than extending their enterprises out to partners via extranets. It is about transforming the way companies create and keep customers - the very core of their businesses."
The Net Economy is marked by a new set of business imperatives: Companies are looking for new ways to create and keep customers; leverage their suppliers and distributors; accelerate their product and service lifecycles; and aggressively re-orient their business models in the face of industry shifts and increased competition. To meet some of these imperatives, businesses are making applications ranging from simple tasks to sophisticated electronic commerce available online, so that thousands and even millions of users can easily access them as needed. Companies are using Netscape software and services to build and deploy a new breed of online applications for employees, partners, suppliers and customers - acting as enterprise service providers (ESPs) by delivering core business applications as services online to their constituents.
"The Internet has come of age; the Net Economy is now at the flashpoint," said Barksdale. "Netscape and its network of partners are uniquely positioned to help businesses win in this new world. By providing the leading software, services and expertise required to do business on the Net, Netscape enables companies to build their own applications using our service-ready infrastructure software, to buy and deploy packaged electronic commerce applications, or to outsource their applications to an Internet Service Provider or to our Netscape Netcenter portal site."
"Standard & Poor's considers Netscape Application Server to be a premier application server, and we selected it on its own strengths over its competitors. Once we started using it, we also saw the rich tool set that Netscape has in e-commerce, publishing, and directory tools. We are convinced that this product line gives us a competitive advantage over other, more narrowly focused product lines," said Ron Rose, chief technology officer at Standard & Poor's. "I believe that the alliance with Sun Microsystems will help Netscape gain a much wider audience for Netscape's broad array of enterprise Internet products. Both Sun Solaris and Netscape Application Server have the reliability and scalability that S&P needs for mission-critical, high-performance financial applications demanded by our customers. We think it is a great combination."
Netscape Communications Corporation is a leading provider of software and services for businesses that want to transform the way they create and keep customers in the emerging Net Economy. The company offers a full line of enterprise software solutions, professional services, and a leading Internet portal to help companies build, buy, or outsource Internet applications that drive revenue growth, build customer loyalty, and create new levels of business efficiency.
