Netscape Communicator 4.5 Now Shipping in Eight Languages

Localized Versions in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish and Japanese Available for Millions to Download

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (November 18, 1998) - Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) announced today it is shipping seven international versions of the highly acclaimed Netscape Communicator 4.5, less than thirty days after the English release on October 19, 1998. Netscape accelerated shipment in recognition of the unprecedented growth rates predicted in the international markets for Internet software.

The French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish and Japanese versions are ready for download by more than 28 million current international Netscape Communicator and Netscape Navigator users and have the potential to reach more than 50 million people worldwide. When coupled with the English release, the newly released language versions will reach 91 percent of the Internet's current worldwide user base. The new software is available at ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/communicator/4.5/.

The seven localized versions of the award-winning Netscape Communicator 4.5 integrate seamlessly with the recently announced Netscape International Netcenter portal sites, providing international users with native language portals to help improve their online experience. All versions of the client software also features support for Euro Currency. This feature represents a major commitment to Netscapeís European customers as they transition to European-wide financial transactions. The EMU will help to create a unified European economic market of 400 million people, eliminating many of the cross-border barriers and encouraging commerce.

"The release of Netscape Communicator client software into eight languages in such a short time represents a new milestone for Netscape," said Bob Lisbonne, senior vice president of Netscapeís client software. "It demonstrates our commitment to providing the best possible online experience for the growing numbers of Internet users worldwide."

Additional localized versions are currently planned for development in Greek, Polish, Romanian, Finnish, Czech, Slovak, Norwegian, and Maori, to name a few. Netscapeís Universal Localization Program allows participants to customize Communicator into virtually any language or dialect and distribute it at no cost. More information on this program is available at: http://www.mozilla.org/docs/l10n/l10n-projects.html. Under the Universal Localization Program, localized releases of Netscape Communicator have already been developed in Korean, Hawaiian, Spanish and Catalan.
