MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (December 19, 1995) -- Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced Netscape Internet Developers Conference, the industry's first Java and JavaScript conference for developers creating live online applications and content. Set for March 5 - 7, 1996, at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, the conference will provide in-depth technical information for the burgeoning developer community building on Netscape's open standards-based software platform to create next-generation applications for enterprise networks and the Internet.
Scheduled as the first in a series of educational events, Netscape Internet DevCon in March will bring together commercial and enterprise developers, creative and design professionals, value-added resellers (VARs), system integrators and technical consultants. The conference will feature three keynote speakers: Marc Andreessen, vice president of technology and co-founder of Netscape; Eric Schmidt, chief technology officer at Sun Microsystems, the creators of Java; and Will Hearst, chief executive officer of @Home, a joint venture between TCI Technology Ventures and Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers that is working to bring high-speed Internet access via cable to homes. The two-and-a-half day agenda will include technical discussions and detailed information about creating content or applications with Netscape clients, servers, and tools as well as other non-proprietary technologies. Other conferences and online events in the series will be announced later in the year.
"The Netscape open software platform is enabling users to create and navigate a new generation of live online applications and content that offer new ways of communicating and conducting business within and beyond the enterprise," said Donna Simonides, director of developer relations for Netscape. "Java, JavaScript and other industry standards are the foundation of this shift from desktop-centric to network-centric computing. Netscape Internet DevCon is designed to provide developers and content creators with the information and tools they need to stay at the forefront of this rapidly evolving world."
Technical sessions at the conference will include such topics as developing internal enterprise web sites or "Intranets"; programming to Netscape's open APIs; programming with Java and JavaScript languages, and creating interactive web pages. Sessions will be hosted by experts from Netscape and its technology partners. In addition, Netscape partners and developers will exhibit their latest technologies, products and tools at the conference in the Netscape Internet Technology Fair.
Produced by Netscape and Integrated Media Inc., a division of IDG, the conference is part of an ongoing educational program for Netscape development partners. Individuals can register for Netscape Internet DevCon by calling (800) 225-4698 in the US or (617) 551-9800 internationally, or by sending email to netscape@mha.com. The cost is $895 prior to January 31, and $995 afterwards. Members of the Netscape Development Partners Program will receive an additional $100 discount. Space at the conference is limited on a first come, first served basis.
