IE Users Are Invited to Netscape Netcenter for Free Browser Tune Up - Makes IE "Smarter" by Integrating Powerful Netcenter Services
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., (November 5, 1998) - Netscape Communications Corporation announced that Netscape TuneUp for IE is available today on Netcenter, Netscape's fast-growing Internet portal, located at http://home.netscape.com. Netscape TuneUp for IE is a free software add-on to Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) that can be downloaded in less than thirty seconds over a typical 28.8k modem connection. Netscape TuneUp for IE makes IE 4.0 and 5.0 "smarter" by integrating Netscape's popular Smart Browsing services while providing integrated access to Netcenter services such as My Netscape, Netscape WebMail, Netscape Search, Netscape Contact, and Netscape Member Directory. This announcement comes two weeks after the shipment of the Netscape Communicator 4.5 client software and further demonstrates the success of Netscape's Project Turbo, a program aimed at making Netscape Netcenter the fastest-growing Internet portal by delivering the power of Netcenter to an expanded Internet community.
"We invite IE users to stop by Netcenter for a free browser tune-up that will enhance their Internet experience," said Mike Homer, executive vice president and general manager of Netscape's Netcenter division. "Netscape TuneUp for IE is a great way for Netscape to show IE users why Netscape Communicator is the market's most powerful Internet communications tool, while also expanding the Netcenter audience."
Netscape TuneUp for IE is available through the popular Netcenter SmartUpdate service, which can be found on the Web at http://home.netscape.com/smartupdate. SmartUpdate is the fastest way to upgrade to the latest Netscape browser and install new plug-ins or add-ons, such as Netscape TuneUp for IE. Netscape TuneUp for IE is a lightweight, 40KB add-on that can easily be installed or uninstalled and gives IE users the ability to try each of the new services or revert back to their old settings.
In addition, Netscape TuneUp for IE gives IE users seamless browser/portal integration features, such as Smart Browsing, that are normally only available to users of Netscape Communicator. Smart Browsing includes Internet Keywords and What's Related features to let IE users find the best information faster. Instead of remembering long, complicated Internet addresses, Smart Browsing enables users to type the words or names they are seeking into the IE location field and be taken to a site for that product, topic, company or service. Once on a site, IE users can use the What's Related list of related sites and services to help them decide where to go next.
