Netscape Selects Intraware SubscribNet Software Update Service

Agreement to Provide Management of Software Updates to Netscape Customers Worldwide

MOUNTAIN VIEW and ORINDA, Calif. (November 2, 1998) - Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced the selection of Intraware SubscribNet service as its software update vehicle to provide proactive notification and electronic software delivery. By embedding the SubscribNet service into software subscriptions for its product line, Netscape expects to substantially streamline software management and provide a superior level of service to its corporate customers worldwide. The agreement highlights Netscape's commitment to providing leading-edge, Internet-based customer service and support.

The SubscribNet for Netscape service is specific to a customer's products, platforms and preferences. The notification includes information about why the update is significant and allows the user to disseminate this information quickly to others across the organization. Entering from an email notification, Netscape Insight or Netcenter, SubscribNet enables customers to download the software from their private, password-protected Web site.

"Update management is a logical operation for Netscape to outsource and Intraware has the necessary expertise, systems and customer service focus to champion this effort," said Debby Meredith, senior vice president of customer satisfaction at Netscape. "Netscape's ability to deliver updates more effectively and efficiently will give customers superior service throughout the lifecycle of our software solutions, and provide a more convenient way for customers to manage licenses."

"This is a very significant announcement for both Netscape and Intraware,"said Steve McHale, senior channels analyst at International Data Corp. "Historically, software vendors have struggled to keep customers well informed of the availability of software updates, patches and fixes. It's to Netscape's credit that it is going the extra mile to bolster customer service with today's agreement with Intraware. Typically, IT professionals are expected to search out updates on the vendor's web site or contact customer service and wait for a CD to be shipped. As a result, too many customers are working with out-dated software and are missing critical bug fixes and enhancements. Now, Netscape customers will be better able to realize the full potential of their software subscriptions with the SubscribNet update service and ultimately get greater value out of their Netscape software investment."

"Netscape has recognized the customer demand for our SubscribNet service, as well as our ability to provide the electronic delivery, database management, security systems and customer service processes necessary to perform this service," said Peter Jackson, president and CEO of Intraware. "Providing software update services to Netscape's largest corporate customers is a significant responsibility, and we are very pleased to see Netscape entrust that role to Intraware."

SubscribNet will be available beginning in December, and Netscape plans to include it with all corporate customer subscription sales beginning December 4, 1998.
