Netscape to Offer Online Browser Customization Services on Netcenter

New Service Provides ISPs and Internet Content Companies With Simplified Creation and Duplication of Customized Netscape Client Software

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (September 30, 1998) - Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced an agreement with 3M to deliver customized versions of Netscape Communicator client software to thousands of Internet service providers (ISP), telecommunications companies, resellers and Internet content companies.

Communicator-To-Go is a new Netcenter service that allows browser distribution partners to specify their desired browser defaults, Internet access settings and CD packaging design in a matter of minutes, and then order unlimited quantities of turnkey, customized Netscape Communicator CDs via Netscape's Unlimited Distribution web site. 3M will manage the customization process and oversee manufacturing and fulfillment.

"Over 7300 companies have ordered our Client Customization Kit since its launch six months ago," said Andres Espineira, Director of Netscape Everywhere. "We are now expanding our customization services through 3M's manufacturing and fulfillment expertise for our growing number of Unlimited Distribution customers. We forecast distribution of more than 150 million Netscape browsers through this program in 12 months."

"Through easy-to-use online forms, companies can pre-configure many ISP settings to make it easy for their customers to get online," said Rich Sanders, Business Development Manager, 3M. "They can also promote their services by using tailored bookmarks, start pages, and toolbar buttons on the web's most popular browser."

"By pre-configuring the mail client and news client settings on the versions of Navigator and Communicator distributed to members, we simplified people's first online experience and reduced our technical support costs," said Leonard Cayetano, Director of Product Development, EarthLink. "And the ability to set members' browsers to default to our Personal Start Page and easily insert custom bookmarks helps members and marketing partners alike."

The Unlimited Distribution Program is part of Netscape's ongoing effort to distribute Netscape Communicator and Netscape Navigator freely to Internet users throughout the world. As part of the program, participating companies can download and redistribute Netscape Navigator and Netscape Communicator client software to their customers. More than half of the 156 million copies of Netscape client software will be distributed in international markets, demonstrating Netscape's growth outside North America.
