Netscape Hosting Solution Enables ISPs and Telcos to Deliver Value-Added Services to Millions of Users

France Telecom, Bell Canada, Interpath and Netcom Are Among More Than 75 ISPs and Telcos Worldwide Using Netscape Software to Deploy Hosted Internet Services

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (September 29, 1998) - Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced a next-generation hosting solution that enables Internet service providers (ISPs) and telecommunications companies (telcos) to deliver hosted Internet services to millions of users worldwide. As part of the hosting solution, Netscape announced three new products: Netscape Messaging Server 4.0 Hosting Edition, high performance messaging server software formerly code named "TroopersISP"; Netscape Delegated Administrator, a directory-based application that provides companies with the ability to privately view and manage their hosted users and groups; and Netscape Messenger Express 4.0, a highly scalable web-based e-mail solution that supports hosted roaming services as well as advertising-based 'freemail' services.

Netscape also announced that more than 75 ISPs and telcos worldwide, including Bell Canada Emergis, Fabrik, France Telecom, Interpath, Kenya Post and Telecoms, KPN Telecom, Netcom, SwissCom and Telstra are deploying hosted Internet and intranet services based on Netscape's server software. In addition, more than 15,000 ISPs and telcos globally have signed up to distribute 160 million copies of Netscape Navigator and Netscape Communicator client software to users this year through Netscape's Unlimited Distribution Program.

Netscape's hosting solution enables an ISP or telco to deliver value-added services and quickly expand its customer base. Netscape's hosting solution provides a high-performance, service-ready infrastructure that enables new value-added services such as web-based email, unified messaging, hosted Intranets and electronic commerce.

Netscape Messaging Server 4.0 Hosting Edition provides 'dial-tone' quality Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) support that enables highly scalable and reliable messaging for millions of users. It also serves as the high-performance messaging backbone for premium services that enhance customer loyalty such as unified messaging and web-based email. Netscape Messaging Server 4.0 Hosting Edition, combined with the high performance Netscape Directory Server, offers enterprise-class reliability, extranet-ready security features and advanced user and group administration. Netscape Messenger Express software provides a scalable, full-featured web-based email solution for roaming users that enables faster delivery of these services right through the web browser.

Netscape Delegated Administrator is a new directory-based application that enables service providers to offer their customers a private view and administrative control of their hosted environment. Service providers will now be able to provide better service and quicker response to their customers by enabling customer self-service for corporate and multiple-account hosting. Netscape Delegated Administrator works with Netscape Messaging Server 4.0 Hosting Edition as well as other applications, such as Netscape's Enterprise Server for web-hosting, which support Netscape Directory Server.

Netscape Messaging Server 4.0 Hosting Edition is expected to ship in the fourth quarter. Netscape Delegated Administrator and Netscape Messenger Express are expected to be available in the first quarter of 1999. These products will be added to Netscape SuiteSpot Hosting Edition, which starts at $39US per seat.
