Bull and Netscape Sign Strategic Agreements to Deliver Enhanced Internet Security Solutions

Bull to Integrate Netscape Server Software Within Its SecurWare Security Solution Suite; Bull's SecurWare NetWall to Become Only Firewall Product Available From Netscape

BILLERICA, Mass. (Sept. 21, 1998) - BullSoft, the worldwide software division of Bull, and Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced strategic worldwide agreements that leverage their combined strengths in Internet security technology and marketing/distribution.

Under the agreements, BullSoft will integrate Netscape's Internet security and server software within its SecurWare NetWall firewall, and both companies will market the resulting product later this year. BullSoft's NetWall firewall product will be the only firewall product to be available directly from Netscape. At the same time, Netscape will continue to partner and interoperate with other leading firewall vendors.

For BullSoft, the agreements provide a valuable marketing and sales channel, especially in the United States. Netscape benefits from BullSoft's recognized expertise in Internet security technology.

"Netscape's decision to market NetWall as its only firewall product is a significant affirmation of our SecurWare security technology," said Henry Ancona, president of BullSoft. "The quality and size of Netscape's sales network, plus its online presence, promises to substantially increase SecurWare NetWall's market penetration, especially in the U.S."

"The addition of Netscape's leading Internet technology to SecurWare NetWall's advanced capabilities in filtering, access control, authentication and encryption functions will provide SecurWare customers with outstanding protection that is unique in the market," Ancona said.

"Enterprise customers are looking for strong security solutions to safely take their businesses online and compete in the Net Economy," said David Weiden, vice president of directory server and security products at Netscape. "Bull's adoption of Netscape software further demonstrates Netscape's momentum in the Internet security and directory market with more than 25 companies integrating Netscape server software into their enterprise solutions."

Developed and marketed by BullSoft, SecurWare is an integrated, modular suite of Internet and extranet security solutions designed for high-end enterprise customers. In addition to NetWall, the SecurWare suite includes SecurWare VPN, a strong VPN encryption product; SecurWare ID, a smart card authentication solution; AccessMaster, the leading solution in global security management; and SecurWare Cluster, a software clustering product.

Netscape server software provides real-time directory and security services that enable centralized, low cost management of the myriad of Internet applications deployed by Enterprise Service Providers (ESPs) and independent software companies. Netscape's service-ready infrastructure is ideal for companies competing in the Net Economy where high performance, scalability, 24x7 reliability and strong security that extends outside the enterprise are critical for success.
