Netscape Demonstrates Commitment to OBI Interoperablility With Newly Enhanced CommerceXpert Software

Netscape CommerceXpert Products, Including New BuyerXpert 1.5, to Show Interoperability with Other Vendor Products at Commerce Net OBI Derbies

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (September 21, 1998) - At the OBI Consortium's Open Buying on the Internet (OBI) Interoperability Showcase this week in Los Angeles, California, Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) will debut the newest version of its Netscape BuyerXpert procurement software, shown working with a wide range of commerce products that support the OBI standard. This development is in keeping with Netscape's ongoing commitment to link buyers and suppliers together through Internet commerce by leveraging the OBI standard and other means of streamlining commerce transactions between companies.

The Netscape BuyerXpert 1.5 software for corporate procurement is commercially available this week and will be shown for the first time at the event. This newest version of Netscape BuyerXpert, along with Netscape ECXpert commerce exchange software, includes support for the latest version of the OBI standard and will be shown interacting with remote catalogs from a range of OBI-compliant commerce products from other vendors and suppliers. The Netscape SellerXpert 2.0 software for business-to-business online selling also includes support for the OBI standard and shipped commercially to customers last month.

"The development of the OBI standard is a win-win for both suppliers and buyers, who want to leverage suppliers' commerce sites, while maintaining buying organizations' policies, controls and existing systems," said Steve Savignano, senior vice president of Commerce Applications at Netscape and OBI Consortium director. "As a board member of the OBI consortium and co-author of the OBI standard, we are excited to see our newest applications working live with other commerce products."

"Netscape has been a leader from the outset in its support for the OBI standard, and we are pleased to see the latest versions of Netscape CommerceXpert applications delivering the interoperability the industry needs," said Patrick Gannon, executive director of the OBI Consortium. "With the support of vendors like Netscape, the OBI standard will allow buyers and sellers to easily interoperate using packaged solutions, providing a balanced link in the supply chain between procurement applications and selling applications via the Internet. This interoperability is a great step forward for Internet commerce, making it much easier to conduct true commerce on the Net."

In addition to support for the latest version of OBI, Netscape BuyerXpert 1.5 includes many enhancements such as new workflow improvements for streamlining internal approvals via email and improved order management features. The product is available this week and is priced at $250,000 for a two processor computer system. Netscape SellerXpert 2.0 is shipping today with support for OBI and enhanced features for streamlining business-to-business selling and is priced at $195,000 for a two processor computer system. Netscape ECXpert commerce exchange software enables real-time OBI exchanges between trading partners, and is priced at $75,000 for a two processor computer system.
