MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (November 13, 1995) -- Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced that Collabra Share(TM) 2.1 Macintosh Edition, a new Macintosh client version of the award-winning information sharing and group conferencing software, is now in beta testing. Collabra Share 2.1 Macintosh Edition extends the information-sharing benefits of the recently shipped Collabra Share 2.1 for Windows by offering a multi-platform solution for enterprise customers with both Windows and Macintosh computing environments.
The Macintosh Edition offers the same rich, full-featured collaborative features as the powerful Client/Server Edition for Windows. (In a related Netscape announcement today, the company announced that Collabra Share 2.0 for Windows received PC Magazine's prestigious Editors' Choice Award for the second consecutive year -- see separate release.) Collabra Share 2.1 Macintosh Edition also offers built-in remote support for the growing base of mobile professionals that use Macintosh PowerBooks. Collabra Share 2.1 Macintosh Edition is scheduled for availability by the end of the year.
"This new release will allow Collabra Share customers who have a mix of PCs and Macintosh computers to extend the benefits of collaborative computing to their Macintosh users easily," said Bob Lisbonne, director of product marketing at Netscape.
"Collabra Share Macintosh Edition has the same feature set as the Windows Edition, using a Macintosh look and feel. In addition, the growing base of mobile Macintosh professionals who require easy access to corporate information will appreciate the Macintosh Edition's built-in remote capabilities."
REMOTE ACCESS AND MACINTOSH LOOK AND FEEL
For the growing base of mobile professionals who use Macintosh PowerBooks, Collabra Share 2.1 Macintosh Edition includes built-in remote access capabilities. Using Apple Remote Access (ARA) software and a modem, Macintosh Edition users can easily access Collabra Share forums remotely. Collabra Share 2.1 has been optimized for remote access, allowing smooth performance over 14.4 kbps connections. The Macintosh Edition also offers Macintosh users the intuitive Macintosh 'look and feel'. For example, windows and dialog boxes are displayed with a standard Macintosh look, including the use of white backgrounds, and menus and help are integrated into the Macintosh menu bar.
PC AND MACINTOSH TEAMS CAN EXCHANGE SAME INFORMATION
With Collabra Share 2.1 Macintosh Edition, Macintosh users access and exchange the same information as Windows users, enabling "heterogeneous" Collabra Share workgroups. Macintosh and Windows users will enjoy the same support for fonts, rich text and Object Linking Embedding (OLE) objects.
ROBUST COLLABRA SHARE FUNCTIONALITY
Collabra Share 2.1 Macintosh Edition offers users the same rich information sharing functionality as the recently announced release, Collabra Share 2.1 for Windows. (see October 26, 1995 release entitled Collabra Announces Collabra Share 2.1.) Macintosh users will find the same robust feature set as Windows users, including the InfoNavigator tools, full-text searching, rich text, support for file attachments, OLE handling capabilities, and plug-and-play compatibility with the leading messaging platforms.
PLUG-AND-PLAY E-MAIL INTEGRATION CONTINUES
As with all versions of Collabra Share, Collabra Share 2.1 Macintosh Edition continues its award-winning tradition of integration with existing e-mail clients, allowing users to easily leverage their current mail systems. To allow for integration with a broad range of e-mail systems, the Macintosh Edition has been architected for the plug-in of a mail integration module. The Macintosh Edition includes a module to integrate with Microsoft Mail for AppleTalk Networks.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
Collabra Share 2.1 Macintosh Edition is scheduled for availability by the end of the year. Pricing is the same as the Client/Server Edition of Collabra Share for Windows at $99.95 per user for a 100-user license.
