DIGITAL AND NETSCAPE COMMUNICATIONS ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT


NETSCAPE SERVERS AND NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR TO BE AVAILABLE ON ALPHA PLATFORM
DIGITAL TO PROVIDE WORLDWIDE SERVICE AND SUPPORT

MAYNARD, Mass., Nov. 29 -- Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: DEC) and Netscape Communications Corporation today announced a partnership agreement that will make Digital the first reseller of Netscape Communications' server software. Digital will service and support these products worldwide. Products and services will be available on Digital's Alpha OSF, Alpha NT and Intel NT platforms. Netscape Communications' Netscape Navigator for the Internet will also be available through Digital.

By combining Netscape Communications' Netscape Navigator and the Netsite Commerce Server with Digital's NT and OSF platforms, both companies will continue to promote open standards for secure commerce. The Netscape and Netsite products provide the industry with state-of-the art capabilities for Internet navigation and publishing. Digital servers provide scalability and high performance, meeting the needs of the widest range of customers from entry level businesses to the largest corporations.

The Netscape Navigator and Netsite server line bring secure communications, performance and support to companies and individuals who want to create or access information services on global networks. The products offer easy-to-use interfaces for serving and accessing multimedia information on the net, including formatted text, graphics, audio, and video. They employ a hypertext linking system that lets users simply click on a word or image to retrieve information wherever it is located on the network. The products are fully compatible with other HTTP-based clients and servers.

Digital will be the first company offering traditional services on the Netscape products worldwide. This includes 7x24 phone support, startup and consulting, media, documentation and rights to new versions. Digital and Netscape will work together on defining future product requirements and are collaborating on work going on within Digital today to maximize product strengths for both companies.
