NETSCAPE ANNOUNCES ADD-ON PRODUCT SUITE FOR POPULAR NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR SOFTWARE

NETSCAPE POWER PACK INCLUDES NETSCAPE SMARTMARKS, NETSCAPE CHAT AND MULTIMEDIA ADD-ON APPLICATIONS FROM ADOBE, APPLE, AND PROGRESSIVE NETWORKS

(October 25, 1995) -- Netscape Communications Corporation today announced Netscape Power Pack 1.0, a suite of add-on applications that extends the capabilities of Netscape Navigator for Windows. Combining Netscape SmartMarks, Netscape Chat and multimedia add-on applications from Adobe Systems, Inc., Apple Computer, Inc., and Progressive Networks, Inc., on a CD-ROM, Netscape Power Pack lets customers easily take advantage of five leading add-on applications that enhance the capabilities of Netscape Navigator.

The five add-on applications included with Netscape Power Pack are:

• Netscape SmartMarks, which enables users of Netscape Navigator for Windows to easily monitor and organize their favorite Internet addresses. Netscape SmartMarks lets users receive automatic notification of changes to Internet sites; search popular Internet directories, including Yahoo, with one point-and-click interface; and, organize thousands of bookmarks into folders with descriptive names. Developed by First Floor Software for Netscape, Netscape SmartMarks also supports "bulletins", a new and open HTML extension that enables Web page designers to send short notices to Netscape SmartMarks users who monitor their site.

• Netscape Chat 1.0.1, a powerful tool that enables users of Netscape Navigator for Windows to conduct interactive discussions real-time with other Internet users who share their interests. Users can select multiple chat communication modes including personal conversations (one-to-one), group conferences (many-to-many), and moderated auditoriums (one-to-many). Netscape Chat users can concurrently view web pages in their Netscape Navigator window, dynamically and remotely leading one another to Internet sites during chat discussions. Netscape Chat also supports IRC (Internet Relay Chat) standards for compatibility with a wide range of other chat products and servers.

• Adobe Acrobat Reader 2.1, which enables users to view the wealth of documents distributed in Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF). Visually-rich "WYSIWYG" documents, complete with graphics and type, can be viewed and printed to PostScript or other printers. Documents can be searched and magnified to find needed information and PDF documents can be easily shared with other Windows, Macintosh and UNIX users.

• Apple QuickTime 2.0.3, which enables users to play multimedia movies with video and sound. Users can view full-screen 30-frame-per-second movies; high-quality still images can be viewed; and, compressed (4-to-1) sound can also be listened to at high-quality (16-bit). QuickTime can be used with many Windows applications, including Netscape Navigator and Adobe Persuasion, and supports Windows MCI (Media Control Interface) and OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) for interoperability with other applications.

• Progressive Networks RealAudio Player 1.0, which enables users to listen to sound over the Internet in real time. Sounds can be played instantly, without waiting for a file to download completely; full control can be maintained by starting, stopping and pausing sound playback; and, any section of a sound file can be jumped to instantly. RealAudio Player works with sites that employ the RealAudio Server, which supports sound playback in real-time over the Internet.
