NETSCAPE ANNOUNCES 225 NEW CUSTOMER DESIGN WINS FOR NETSCAPE SUITESPOT, COMMUNICATOR AND COMMERCEXPERT SOFTWARE

WINS DEMONSTRATE STRONG MOMENTUM FOR NETSCAPE MESSAGING AND BUSINESS-CRITICAL JAVA/JAVASCRIPT APPLICATIONS; REPRESENTS MORE THAN 4 MILLION SEATS ACROSS MULTIPLE INDUSTRIES WORLDWIDE

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (December 3, 1997) -- Netscape Communications Corporation (NSCP) today announced that it has achieved more than 225 new customer design wins, which demonstrate strong momentum for Netscape SuiteSpot 3.0, Netscape Communicator and Netscape CommerceXpert software in the first three quarters of 1997. Netscape defines design wins as customers who have chosen Netscape software for significant corporate messaging solutions or implementing business-critical Intranet and Extranet applications. These 225 new design wins bring the total to 425 that have begun deployment of Netscape software for messaging or Java/JavaScript applications. Netscape design wins now encompass more than 4 million seats in industries such as finance, hotel, health care, management consulting, paper and office products, semiconductor manufacturing and utilities. At his keynote at the Netscape European Developer Conference in Paris, Jim Barksdale, president and CEO of Netscape, also today announced that European customers account for 100 of the 425 design wins.

Hilliard, W.L. Lyons, Inc., Southern California Gas, Synopsys, Inc., Travelocity by the SABRE Group, US Army, US Navy, Watson Wyatt and Xylan Corporation. Netscape's European design wins, which represent 100 of the 425 design wins, include customers such as Alleanza Assicurazione, Audi, Britannia Building Society, La Repubblica, Liberty Life, Marlink, Renault, SAAB, Salomon, Shell and Telefonica.

Examples of how Netscape customers are deploying Netscape's open, cross-platform technology include the following:

• Affiliated Distributors, a marketing association comprised of more than 285 independent distributors with more than 2,200 locations in four countries that distribute electrical products, industrial supplies, and industrial pipe, valve, and fittings. The association is using Netscape SuiteSpot to save hundreds of thousands of dollars every year by distributing sales and marketing information via A-D Net, its Intranet and Extranet. The association members, or "affiliates," also use A-D Net to create joint marketing plans, share best practices, and submit, verify and track sales, marketing and training activities. Affiliates also use A-D Net as a tool to support integrated supply and national supply contracts with major customers. A-D Net utilizes Netscape Enterprise Server, Netscape Directory Server, Netscape Messaging Server and Netscape Collabra Server. • Boise Cascade, a manufacturer of paper and office products, is taking advantage of Netscape software to create an online catalog with fast, easy item identification, ordering and purchasing via its Extranet. The company's Extranet is the foundation for the new Boise Cascade Business-to-Business Shopping Environment. "Netscape CommerceXpert and Netscape SuiteSpot enable Boise Cascade to customize ordering processes for its customers, eliminate redundancies and reduce hidden costs," said Laura Longcore, electronic commerce manager at Boise Cascade. "Netscape products are helping drive the future of electronic commerce by enhancing customer/supplier relationships in a rich, intuitive and versatile manner."

• Hambrecht & Quist, a leading full-service investment bank, is using Netscape Communicator Professional Edition and Netscape SuiteSpot for its corporate Intranet, which serves more than 800 users. The company's Intranet enables its employees to save time by sharing and accessing internal business documents, company research and human resources information online. Hambrecht & Quist also realizes cost savings by using its Intranet to replace a great deal of paper-based document distribution.
