NETSCAPE ANNOUNCES NETSCAPE SUITETOOLS 2.0 FAMILY OF TOOLS FOR BUILDING INTRANET AND EXTRANET APPLICATIONS

NEW TOOLS SUITE DELIVERS NETSCAPE VISUAL JAVASCRIPT PRO AND NETSCAPE COMPONENT BUILDER TO PROVIDE A SINGLE OFF-THE-SHELF SOLUTION FOR NETSCAPE ONE DEVELOPERS

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., (November 19, 1997) -- Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced Netscape SuiteTools 2.0, a family of development tools for building and deploying applications on Intranets, Extranets and the Internet. Netscape SuiteTools 2.0 is a new suite of tools that delivers Netscape Visual JavaScript Pro 1.0 and Netscape Component Builder 1.0. The suite is specifically designed to enable developers to create applications quickly and easily on the Netscape ONE platform to link businesses and customers together.

Netscape SuiteTools 2.0 is specifically designed to take full advantage of the capabilities of the Netscape ONE platform, enabling developers to build powerful Web-based applications by snapping together pre-built software components called JavaBeans. With Netscape SuiteTools 2.0, developers can both link existing JavaBeans together into applications and build additional JavaBean components. Netscape is fully leveraging JavaBeans throughout the Netscape ONE platform, and is using the JavaBean component model to make many Netscape platform services - including messaging, directory and database access - available to developers.

"Netscape SuiteTools 2.0 enables developers to rapidly build and deploy the next generation of Internet-based applications - applications designed to cut costs, improve efficiency and increase customer satisfaction using Netscape ONE," said Martin Cagan, vice president for platform and tools at Netscape. "Netscape ONE is the most powerful and flexible platform available for building and deploying applications that provide 24-hour-a-day interaction with customers, suppliers or partners worldwide via the Internet and Extranets."

Netscape Visual JavaScript Pro 1.0 contains everything a developer needs to build and test applications, including Netscape Visual JavaScript 1.0, a visual tool for the rapid development of Intranet and Extranet applications. By dragging and dropping a rich array of JavaBean components - available from both Netscape and its partners - from a component palette into Web pages, developers can easily build applications that can access data stored in relational databases. Supported databases include Oracle, Informix, Sybase, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL server and ODBC data sources. Netscape Visual JavaScript includes over 40 pre-built components from Netscape and partners, such as Argent Coffee Table Grid by Argent Software and PopChartLite from Corda Technologies. To enable developers to design and test their applications on their own machine, Visual JavaScript Pro 1.0 also includes a single user develop and test version of Netscape Enterprise Server 3.0, a personal SQL database, the Netscape JavaScript Debugger and a Netscape ONE application tutorial.

Netscape Component Builder 1.0 is a development solution for IT professionals who are seeking an advanced solution for developing their own custom Java, JavaScript or CORBA components for use in Netscape ONE applications. Netscape Component Builder 1.0 includes both Symantec Visual Café 2.0 Professional Developer Edition for building JavaBean components, and Acadia JSBean Builder for building JavaScript components. In addition, Netscape Component Builder 1.0 includes the Netscape Component Developer Kit (CDK), a set of tools, training materials and sample code for the creation of Java, JavaScript and CORBA components.

Netscape ONE refers to Netscape's platform for building, deploying, and managing the next generation of Extranet, Intranet, and Internet applications. Netscape ONE enables developers to build applications with a rich set of platform services provided by Netscape and its partners as JavaBeans - the building blocks of Netscape ONE applications. JavaBeans are pre-built, self-contained pieces of software code that a developer can drag and drop into a Web page and link together with JavaScript to build applications. Netscape ONE applications can be easily deployed by publishing the Web application to a Web server. By extending an organization's Intranet out to an Extranet, Netscape ONE applications enable around-the-clock, worldwide transactions with business partners, suppliers, and customers.

Netscape SuiteTools 2.0 is scheduled for availability in the fourth quarter of 1997. Pricing is expected to be US$995 per developer seat. Netscape Visual JavaScript Pro 1.0, Visual JavaScript and Netscape Component Builder 1.0 are also scheduled to be available in the fourth quarter 1997 as individual items, and pricing is expected to be US$795, US$495 and US$295 respectively per developer seat.
