TECHNOLOGY VISIONARIES MARC ANDREESSEN AND JAMES GOSLING TO KEYNOTE NETSCAPE'S FIRST EUROPEAN DEVELOPER CONFERENCE

PARIS and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (November 12, 1997) -- Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced that Netscape's executive vice president of products Marc Andreessen and JavaSoft's chief technology officer James Gosling will keynote Netscape's first European Developer Conference, being held in Paris at L'Arche de La Defense from December 1 to 3, 1997. Netscape also announced that Compaq Corporation, Digital Equipment Corporation, Oracle Corporation, Santa Cruz Operation and Sun Microsystems Inc. are co-sponsoring the European Developer Conference.

Netscape's Andreessen will kick off the conference by outlining Netscape's architectural strategy for enabling the Networked Enterprise. On the second day of the conference, Oracle's vice president of Systems Product Mark Jarvis will explain Oracle's role in bringing Java to the enterprise. JavaSoft's Gosling will then discuss the role of Java in enterprise Intranet development and present JavaSoft's Java strategy and future trends. In addition, SCO's director of strategic marketing Tony Baines will explain how SCO's Tarantella environment revolutionizes application deployment. Netscape president and chief executive officer Jim Barksdale will conclude the conference by addressing the company's future direction and presenting business opportunities available to Netscape developers.

More than 10 industry-leading companies will also support the conference, including IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Silicon Graphics, Apple, Progress Software, NetDynamics, Unisys and BEA Systems. Le Monde Informatique, the leading French IT weekly magazine of IDG France, will also participate as a press partner. Finally, the Netscape Partner Pavilion will feature more than 35 exhibits showcasing some of the most recent applications, plug-ins and tools supporting the Netscape open network environment for application development.

Aimed at providing IT European developers with the information and tools they need, the conference will feature three days of in-depth, interactive technical sessions. Four technology tracks and more than 45 technology sessions will educate and inform attendees on the various aspects of developing and deploying enterprise-scale Intranet and Extranet applications.
