MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (October 23, 1997) -- Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced an increased commitment to the Netscape reseller channel and a plan to expand the business opportunity for its channel partners reselling Netscape software products. The company is enhancing its 'Team-Selling' program with a new pledge to funnel business deals of 2,000 seats or less through its indirect channel. The move is expected to dramatically increase the volume of business funneled through the Netscape Solution Expert Program, which includes Netscape systems integrators, value-added resellers (VARs), network integrators and consultants.
"In July of this year, we announced our commitment to grow Netscape's indirect channel with a pledge to funnel all business leads of 500 seats or less through Netscape Solution Experts," said Danny Shader, vice president of partner and developer relations at Netscape. "Today, we are building on the success of that program with a commitment to pass dramatically more sales volume to our resellers. This decision is part of Netscape's overall goal of heightening our focus on the channel and significantly increasing the business opportunities for our channel partners."
Delivering on its commitment to support the growth of its indirect channel, which in the third quarter represented nearly half of Netscape's business, Netscape also plans to deploy additional direct and indirect personnel resources to field locations throughout the United States. This move is intended to assist in lead generation and to make training and support more easily accessible to Netscape Solution Expert partners in a wide range of locations.
As part of this enhanced 'Team-Selling' approach, Netscape will continue to team with its channel partners on sales to large enterprises, representing organizations with more than 2,000 seats.
The Netscape Solution Expert Program delivers business opportunity, training, software and support to companies reselling Netscape's leading line of Intranet and Extranet software. Resources offered to Netscape Solution Experts include: Netscape Insight, Netscape's new Extranet for sharing information with channel partners; the Netscape Sales Leads program, which passes sales leads to resellers; Web-based training to qualify for Solutions Expert membership; and a free license for internal use of Netscape Communicator client software and the Netscape SuiteSpot family of server software.
