NETSCAPE ANNOUNCES FIRST EUROPEAN DEVELOPER CONFERENCE FOCUSED ON NETWORKED ENTERPRISE AND CROSSWARE DEVELOPMENT

NETSCAPE DEVCON EUROPE, BEING HELD DECEMBER 1-3, 1997 IN PARIS, WILL WELCOME NETSCAPE CO-FOUNDER MARC ANDREESSEN, CEO JIM BARKSDALE AND OTHER INTERNET TECHNOLOGY LEADERS

PARIS, France and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (October 7, 1997) -- Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced plans to host its first European Developer Conference in Paris, at L'Arche de La Defense, from December 1 to 3, 1997, emphasizing the important role of European developers in delivering its Networked Enterprise vision to businesses. Netscape president and CEO Jim Barksdale made the announcement in a press conference in Paris. DevCon Europe is designed to be the premier European forum for keeping Internet and Intranet developers and Web masters informed and educated on technologies that are critical for making strategic development decisions.

Aimed specifically at technical professionals designing, developing, deploying and managing enterprise Intranets, Extranets and Internet sites, the conference will help attendees acquire the tools and techniques to develop Crossware applications. Crossware is a new generation of on-demand applications that run across networks and operating systems, and are based on open Internet standards like HTML, Java, and JavaScript. Consequently, Crossware can be easily extended to partners and customers and is uniquely suited to support projects and processes that span people and networks. This class of applications is in sharp contrast to traditional "fat client" applications that are tied to particular operating systems and cannot scale or extend beyond the firewall.

The conference will feature keynote presentations by Jim Barksdale and Marc Andreessen, co-founder and executive vice president of products at Netscape, who will be making his first keynote appearance in Europe.

"The Networked Enterprise is becoming a global model for corporations seeking a competitive advantage, and the European developer community is key in delivering that model," said Marc Andreessen. "The Netscape product family, based on open standards technology, delivers a client-server solution to help enterprises achieve business goals. We will address Internet, Intranet and Extranet development issues with our community of European developers to help them take advantage of our new and emerging technologies to make strategic development decisions."

DevCon Europe will offer two and a half days of intensive and interactive sessions covering all aspects of the Netscape ONE open network environment. DevCon Europe will offer three conference tracks, geared toward specific needs of developers:

Participants will meet key Netscape programmers and experts, including the initiators of numerous Internet standards such as LDAP, SSL, JFC and JavaScript. Technology leaders will also share their extensive experience in CORBA, IIOP and Java programming.

DevCon Europe will feature a Partner Pavilion where developers will meet face to face with companies that provide the best Internet and Intranet tools, applications, solutions and services based on Netscape technologies.

Registration for the conference is available online at http://developer.netscape.com/devcon/europe, and by telephone at +33 1 41 16 16 90. Registration fee for the complete two and half day conference is U.S. $720 if payment is received by November 2, 1997. After November 2, the fee increases to $900. Netscape DevEdge developer program members receive a $90 discount, regardless of registration date.
