NETSCAPE CALENDAR SERVER 1.0 FACT SHEET

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (December 9, 1996) -- Netscape Communications Corporation has released the final version of Netscape Calendar Server software 1.0, a new enterprise scheduling server software for managing meetings and calendars on corporate Intranets and over the Internet. Netscape Calendar Server is cross-platform calendaring and scheduling software that scales to support tens of thousands of users on a corporate Intranet or the public Internet. The new software is available for immediate download on the Netscape Internet site.

Netscape Calendar Server helps keep people better informed and coordinated by enabling users in an enterprise to easily and efficiently schedule meetings, book conference rooms and manage calendars in real time with up-to-date calendar information via the Web. Together with the Netscape Calendar component of Netscape Communicator Professional Edition client software, Netscape Calendar Server provides a complete solution for managing meetings and calendars on Intranets and the Internet. It is one of nine servers in the Netscape SuiteSpot family for open email and groupware on Intranets.

NETSCAPE CALENDAR SERVER FEATURES

  • Enterprise-class calendaring solution. Netscape Calendar Server is a powerful calendaring and scheduling solution with sophisticated access controls. It allows users to schedule in real time and, with permission, to view and manage other users' calendars. The software features real-time scheduling of users, groups, conference rooms, and resources on both local and remote servers. The server's flexible delegation capabilities allow users to grant, view, or modify permissions to other users. It supports many types of calendar entries, including events, daily notes, holidays, reminders, and tasks

  • Scalable Architecture. Netscape Calendar Server is based on a scalable architecture that allows a single server to support tens of thousands of users, and multiple Netscape Calendar Servers can be configured in a distributed server-to-server architecture. Unlike many message-based systems, the efficient Netscape Calendar Server database stores only one copy of each event for maximum performance. Its real-time architecture ensures that users are always using the most up-to-date information.

  • Online and remote access. For users on the road, Netscape Calendar Server supports both online and offline scheduling. It allows users to download their own and other users' calendars for remote access and synchronizes offline agendas automatically upon return. Real-time server-to-server connections help ensure that users are looking at the most up-to-date calendars

  • Sophisticated task management. To help users manage assignments and deadlines, Netscape Calendar Server supports many task priority levels such as 1-9 and A-Z, and tracks percentage of task completed. The software allows additional task attributes, including start and due date/time, reminders and task descriptions via both text and attachments. It also helps users combine personal and career priorities with a variety of task security levels including, personal, confidential, and normal

  • Centralized management and administration. For IT professionals, Netscape Calendar Server features easy, centralized administration of a single- or multiple-server environment. Powerful, easy-to-use tools allow system administrators to manage a network of Netscape Calendar Servers locally or through a central management tool.
  • Prior to the beta of Netscape Communicator Professional Edition, Netscape Calendar Server can be used with the currently shipping calendar client from Corporate Software and Technologies, Int., Inc. (CS&T). Both the CS&T client and Netscape Calendar Server software are available now on the Netscape Internet site. Netscape chose CS&T and the Corporate Time product line for the product's excellent reputation with corporate customers and proven reliability in large installations. Corporate Time's client/server architecture provides users with rapid access to calendar data. In future versions of Netscape Calendar Server, Netscape plans to include support for the new open protocols being submitted to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Calendaring and Scheduling Working Group, enabling users to manage their calendars and schedule meetings using interoperable products from a broad range of vendors.
