NETSCAPE CLIENT AND SERVER PRODUCTS EARN HIGH MARKS FROM CUSTOMERS AND INDUSTRY WATCHERS

TECHTEL STUDY SHOWS USERS' POSITIVE OPINIONS OF NETSCAPE SOFTWARE; NETSCAPE INTERNET SITE DRAWS 30 MILLION VISITORS EACH WEEK


MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (December 4, 1996) -- Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced that its award-winning client and server software products are continuing to achieve high marks for customer satisfaction in the Intranet and Internet marketplace. An independent survey published by Techtel Corp. indicates that Netscape Navigator client software, Netscape FastTrack Server software and Netscape Enterprise Server software each received positive opinion ratings of higher than 90 percent from customers using these products. At 97 percent, Netscape Navigator's positive opinion rating ranks nearly 20 percentage points above the closest competitive offering.

Netscape also announced today that its Internet site continues to be the most visited site on the World Wide Web. A newly released Nielsen I/PRO audit reveals nearly 30 million people visit the Netscape Internet site each week, up from a previous high of 20 million weekly visitors recorded just three months ago. The average number of visitors now exceeds 4 million people per day, up from a previous high of 2.9 million average visitors per day recorded last quarter.

In recent weeks, Netscape products have also won international acclaim by capturing prestigious awards, including PC Magazine's "Editor's Choice Award" for Netscape Navigator 3.0; PC Computing's "Best HTML Editor" award for Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0 client software; and Network World's "1996 Best Web Server" for Netscape Enterprise Server 2.0, part of Netscape SuiteSpot server suite. In addition, Netscape Communicator client software and the technology code-named Netscape Constellation won Byte Magazine's "Best of Comdex" award in the Internet products division.

In less than two years since its commercial release, Netscape Navigator has become the cross-platform client-of-choice for more than 45 million Internet and Intranet users. Throughout the fall, Netscape Navigator has maintained an approximately 75% share of the fast-growing market for Internet client software, according to a survey of a cross-section of commercial Web sites. Similarly, a recent report from Dataquest states that Netscape server software is the software of choice for Fortune 1000 companies building Intranets.
