LAS VEGAS, Nevada - Comdex Booth #H223 (November 18, 1996) - Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced a new program called Netscape In-Box Direct for SuiteSpot, the enterprise version of its popular In-Box Direct service announced two months ago. Netscape In-Box Direct for SuiteSpot is a customized multimedia news service which enables corporations licensing Netscape client and server software to deliver Web pages and to push tailored news and analysis from selected content providers directly to the inboxes of their employees.
Netscape In-Box Direct for SuiteSpot uses a new class of electronic information services that combine the multimedia capabilities, integrated newsgroups and electronic mail features of Netscape Communicator client software and Netscape SuiteSpot server software to enable open, cross-platform, rich-text messaging and groupware on corporate Intranets. News services will be delivered by content providers to companies through Netscape SuiteSpot, enabling companies to provide customized Web content to specific employees, departments or the entire company. The Netscape In-Box Direct for SuiteSpot concept provides content providers with a new opportunity to target and deliver their services to enterprise customers. Initial content providers taking advantage of Netscape In-Box Direct for SuiteSpot include @vantage from Gartner Group, ClariNet Communications, CNNfn, Dow Jones, Knight-Ridder New Media, LEGI-SLATE Inc., LEXIS-NEXIS, The New York Times, Reuters, The Washington Post and Ziff-Davis.
"The killer business application of 1997 is Web-based email and groupware, which we are delivering through Netscape Communicator and Netscape SuiteSpot," said Mike Homer, senior vice president of marketing at Netscape. "Netscape In-Box Direct for SuiteSpot is a great example of how companies can take advantage of the rich email capabilities and groupware of Netscape SuiteSpot to create applications for their Intranets. We have registered more than 1.5 million subscriptions to the Netscape In-Box Direct program in the two months since its introduction - and we expect enterprise subscriptions to this new program to enable our content partners to reach hundreds and thousands of new users at a time."
Netscape will be hosting a Netscape In-Box Direct for SuiteSpot page on its Web site to provide information about content providers, enable companies to establish initial contact with content providers and answer frequently asked questions about the program. Netscape also plans to bundle content with Netscape SuiteSpot to provide companies with a sampling of the compelling content available for their employees.
"@vantage provides clients with fast access to Gartner Group's research and analysis on the IT industry to help them make critical decisions that affect their business," said Bruce Barlag, executive vice president, Interactive Services at Gartner Group. "The Netscape In-Box Direct for SuiteSpot program offers an opportunity for our clients to disseminate relevant and focused Gartner Group analysis to their employees while leveraging their investment in Intranet technology."
