RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (November 14, 1996) -- IBM and Netscape Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced a licensing agreement through which Netscape will integrate IBM's new Java-based web-to-host software, IBM Host On-Demand, into Netscape's enterprise intranet client, Netscape Communicator Professional Edition. As part of the agreement, IBM is licensed to include Netscape Communicator Professional Edition with various IBM hardware and software offerings and market these offerings through IBM's worldwide sales and distribution channels.
By combining a Java-based host access application with Netscape's intranet client, the two companies are fulfilling key intranet requirements, extending the availability of business-critical information on customers' enterprise servers.
"Netscape firmly believes that integration with the existing enterprise infrastructure is important to our success in the corporate market," said Mike Homer, senior vice president of marketing at Netscape. "This agreement emphasizes our commitment to providing comprehensive, open solutions for the corporate intranet and reinforces our support for Java-based applications."
"Today's announcement reinforces IBM's strategy to help customers integrate existing data into new, Web-based solutions," said James Neiser, vice president of marketing, IBM Networking Software. "This is consistent with our goal to make leading Internet software platforms, such as Netscape, available with IBM systems."
