NETSCAPE ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNER ENGINEERING CENTER

CENTER HOSTS SEVERAL COMPANIES INCLUDING DIGITAL, HP, IBM, INFORMIX AND SCO TO DEVELOP OPEN, CROSS-PLATFORM SOLUTIONS FOR ENTERPRISE CUSTOMERS

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (November 13, 1996) -- Demonstrating its commitment to fostering strong technology relationships and cross-platform enterprise solutions, Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced the opening of its new Netscape Partner Engineering Center (NPEC). NPEC will host projects between Netscape and its many partners to speed software porting, testing, performance and localization efforts. NPEC will enable OEMs, system integrators and strategic customers to join with Netscape in moving Netscape software to a broad range of software and hardware platforms.

NPEC, located on Netscape's Mountain View campus, was created to make Netscape's software for Intranets readily available across a variety of platforms. NPEC will help Netscape provide OEMs with increased engineering cooperation, accelerated product availability, increased product functionality and increased localization of products. Companies taking advantage of the center initially include Berkeley Software Design, Inc., Digital, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Informix, MKS, NCR, Pyramid Technology, SCO and Siemens Nixdorf.

"As the number of platforms supported by Netscape software continues to increase, it is even more important that Netscape work closely with its partners' engineering organizations," said Jeff Marinchak, partner engineering center manager at Netscape. "The center is another way for Netscape to work with its OEMs to develop leading-edge technology based on the open, cross-platform standards of the Internet."

"The Partner Engineering Center is a place where Netscape OEMs put their platform experts to work with Netscape's product experts to broaden the availability of the Netscape platform," said Tom Maurano, director of platform products group at Netscape. "By working together in this environment, we are able to bring the full line of Netscape software to our customers sooner and on a wider range of platforms."

Netscape Intranet solutions enable corporate customers to build and manage open email, publishing and groupware solutions as rich as the Web on corporate Intranets. Netscape SuiteSpot 3.0 integrated server software suite and Netscape Communicator client software provide matched client/server software solutions for building full service Intranets. Together, Netscape software products form a rich platform for deploying enterprise applications that cross operating environments and corporate firewalls to include customers and partners into key business processes. Netscape client and server software already works across a variety of popular environments including major UNIX platforms, Macintosh platforms and Windows platforms.

"Netscape's new partner engineering center is another way for HP and Netscape to work closely together to meet the enterprise needs of our customers," said Janice Chaffin, general manager of HP's General Systems Division. "With the new engineering center, HP will be able to work even more deeply and effectively with Netscape to develop a wider range of Internet-based computing solutions."

"Netscape and IBM have partnered to develop a native OS/2 speech-enabled version of Netscape Navigator client software," said Art Olbert, vice president of business development, IBM Personal Software Products. "The new Netscape Partner Engineering Center will allow us to create new complementary products to meet the needs of our customers."
