MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (November 12, 1996) -- Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:NSCP) today announced that 1,000 Kaiser Permanente members located in Silicon Valley are utilizing Netscape software for the HMO's newly launched member access system pilot called "Kaiser Permanente Online." For the pilot project, Kaiser Permanente has purchased Netscape Enterprise Server software, Netscape Navigator client software, Netscape Community System software and Netscape Publishing System software. In addition Kaiser worked with Netscape Worldwide Professional Services to determine the technology best suited for Kaiser's requirements, implement the proposed system blueprint developed during the initial project study between Kaiser and Netscape Professional Services and design and produce a site organization and graphical user interface to provide Kaiser members with an easy-to-use system.
Kaiser Permanente Online will link its members to healthcare and prescription drug information, support groups and Kaiser provider phone directory. In the first phase of the new online service, 1,000 Kaiser members in Santa Clara, Milpitas and Mountain View will participate in the pilot. After entering their personal identification number (PIN), members should be able to access:

Kaiser is in the process of further developing Kaiser Permanente Online to provide members with additional services. By December, 1,000 members in Santa Clara, Milpitas and Mountain View should be able to schedule non-urgent medical appointments with physicians by filling out an online form. In addition, Kaiser Permanente Online will allow members to fill out a health assessment form online detailing their health habits and history. Members will also be able to consult an advice nurse online. By early 1998, Kaiser Permanente expects to offer its online service to all Northern California members.
In the meantime, all Kaiser Permanente members and the public-at-large can access the HMO's public Web site for general information at www.kaiserpermanenteca.org.
