HP CHOSEN AS NETSCAPE'S FIRST WORLDWIDE SUPPORT PROVIDER

HP AUTHORIZED TO SUPPORT NETSCAPE'S ENTIRE PRODUCT LINE

PALO ALTO, Calif. (November 11, 1996) -- Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP) and Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced an agreement whereby HP will become the first worldwide support provider for Netscape's entire line of Internet and Intranet software, including both client and server products.

The agreement builds on the companies' earlier announcement that they would jointly deliver enterprise Intranet solutions to customers worldwide.

Under the terms of the agreement, enterprise-level users of Netscape Internet and Intranet software can expect a variety of services, including the following:

HP also is authorized to distribute Netscape upgrades for major releases and subscription services to end-user customers and through HP Channel Partners.

HP is committed to working closely with resellers. Through this agreement, HP plans to develop Internet support services that will be available solely through resellers. These HP SupportPack services are intended to help resellers extend their market presence and lower operating costs.

"The relationship between Netscape and HP will focus on providing enterprise customers with the Internet and Intranet solutions and the support they need to deploy those solutions successfully," said Eric Hahn, senior vice president of Server Marketing for Netscape. "Working with HP, Netscape can provide access to the world-class services that are fundamental to enterprise customers. In particular, this service commitment will be important to rapidly growing markets, such as the Intranet market.

HP SUPPORTS LEADING INTERNET SOFTWARE
HP's new support alliance with Netscape, coupled with its other long-standing alliances, places HP in a most favorable position to support mixed-platform environments, especially those characterized by UNIX system/Novell's IntranetWare/Windows NT interoperability. This is consistent with HP's overall Internet strategy to provide customers with a full range of high-quality support services.

"HP's agreement with Netscape rounds out an important strategy to deliver high-quality Net software services that meet or exceed our customers needs," said Mark Solle, general manager of HP's Software Services and Technology Division. "With HP as Netscape's first worldwide support partner, we are in the best position to lead the way for these services."

INTRANET INTEGRATION OF UNIX SYSTEM/WINDOWS NT ENVIRONMENTS
The HP and Netscape agreement enables intranet customers to receive high-quality, consistent global support of enterprise intranets in mixed UNIX system/Netscape IntranetWare and Microsoft Windows NT environments. Netscape's most popular UNIX system server products, Netscape SuiteSpot and Netscape FastTrack Servers, are available on HP-UX(1) today. Intranet customers also are slated to have access to offerings from HP's broad range of flexible software and hardware services for enterprise computing environments.
