NEW YORK (October 16, 1996) -- Amplitude Software and Netscape Communications Corporation today announced that Netscape recommends Reserve, its resource management application, as a complementary solution to Netscape Calendar. Developed completely on the Netscape ONE platform, Reserve Version 1.1 has been shipping since July and is in use at several large enterprises, including Charles Schwab, Pacific Bell, Lockheed-Martin, Ericsson AB, PE Applied Biosystems, the University of California, the Boulder Valley School District, and the law firm of Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich, and Rosati.
Reserve is a Web-based product used to schedule virtually any shared resource, such as training facilities, audio/visual equipment, vehicles, medical equipment, and sports facilities. Reserve is the first scheduling product built specifically for use on Internets and Intranets using Netscape Navigator and Netscape SuiteSpot family of servers. Reserve works from most any desktop, including those running Windows, UNIX, Macintosh, and OS/2, and is ideal for both intra-enterprise (Intranet) use and for scheduling public resources over the Internet.
Netscape's work with Amplitude complements its own enterprise scheduling products, which will be available later this year. Netscape Calendar and Netscape Calendar Server easily scale to allow large enterprises to schedule meetings and meeting rooms. When used in conjunction with Reserve, additional resources such as catering and an overhead projector can also be reserved.
"Enterprise-wide resource scheduling is something our customers are asking us for, and Reserve gives our customers additional value from their enterprise Intranet," said Eric Hahn, senior vice president of Enterprise Technologies for Netscape. "Reserve is built on the Netscape ONE platform which makes it easily deployable across platforms within an organization and on the public Internet."
"Anyone with Intranet Web sites and shared resources should look at how effectively Reserve automates the process of scheduling those resources," said Randall Sosnick, president of Amplitude. "Companies building Intranet Web sites are excited about adding Reserve to their offering to help their clients get an immediate return on their Web investment."
"We have found Reserve to be an excellent productivity tool for scheduling our computer and A/V equipment, as well as classrooms and conference rooms," said Michael Wilson, Director of Media Services for the Haas School of Business of the University of California at Berkeley. Noting that Reserve makes optimal use of the Web architecture with no client-side software to install and maintain, Wilson remarks, "It's incredibly easy to use and to administer."
Amplitude solves tangible business problems using the new architecture made possible by the World Wide Web and internetworking. Amplitude's products are server-based and designed for enterprise-wide use. "It is refreshing to see a Web start-up directly addressing a real customer business need," said Nina Burns, president of Creative Networks, a leading consultant firm in collaborative computing. "While a lot of Internet software companies are working on tools, Amplitude is providing one of the first enterprise-wide Web solutions while leapfrogging older client-server technology."
