MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and PARIS, France (October 10, 1996) -- Netscape Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced it is expanding its Netscape Inbox Direct service to provide users with automatic delivery of Internet content from European companies directly to their electronic mail inboxes. Sixteen European content providers have agreed to participate, joining over 30 companies previously announced.

Netscape Navigator users will be able to receive valuable content of their choice from leading European companies such as Axel Springer Verlag, Gruner & Jahr (Stern Online), FOCUS-Online and Rheinische Post in Germany, Liberation in France, De Telegraaf and TROS in Holland, Aamulehti Group in Finland, La Vanguardia, El Correo Gallego, Banesto, Recoletos Cia. Editorial in Spain, The Mirror Group and The Daily Telegraph in the U.K., and Milano Finanza Editori Spa and Mondadori in Italy. This service from Europeans is expected to be available on the Netscape Internet site in November.

"International users will benefit from this breakthrough new service by receiving their favorite domestic content directly to their email inboxes, at no cost and simply by subscribing to it," said Didier Benchimol, European vice president sales at Netscape. "We are very happy to welcome such leading European content providers to participate in this service, giving them an innovative way to reach their customers and allowing Netscape users to receive news, sports, business, industry, entertainment and finance according to their preferences."

"We've been looking a long time for the right opportunity for email services, and we view Netscape Inbox Direct as a great opportunity for users who want to receive direct and personalized news services without spending time cruising the Internet," added Gustavo Entrala, of Recoletos Cia. Editorial in Spain.

Netscape Inbox Direct was announced in August as a customized electronic mail multimedia news service for users of Netscape Navigator client software. It harnesses the rich-text messaging capabilities of Netscape Navigator mail, delivering HTML-based messages that come alive with sound, graphics, video and 3D animation for a complete, live mail experience. With Netscape Inbox Direct, Netscape Navigator users easily receive interactive, dynamic Web pages delivered right to their email inbox. Users click on their preferences on the Netscape Destinations section of the Netscape Internet site to link to content providers' sites to register for customized information.
