NETSCAPE EXTENDS SUPPORT FOR DIGITAL EQUIPMENT CORPORATION PLATFORMS

NETSCAPE PRODUCTS TO BE AVAILABLE FOR OPENVMS, WINDOWS NT ON ALPHA, AND DIGITAL UNIX ALPHA ENVIRONMENTS

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (May 8, 1995) -- Netscape Communications Corporation today announced that it will make its Netscape server software line available for Windows NT on Alpha and the OpenVMS operating system from Digital Equipment Corporation. The company also announced that its Netscape Internet Applications will be available for the Digital UNIX Alpha operating system.

With Netscape products available across these various environments, Digital customers will have access to the industry's broadest range of Internet client and server solutions. With the Netscape server and applications software products, users on Digital Equipment platforms can publish information on the Internet's World Wide Web and private TCP/IP networks as well as conduct business on the Internet using Netscape's secure communications facilities.

"We are excited about the possibilities that Netscape's products bring to our customers," said Rose Ann Giordano, vice president of Digital's Internet Business Group. "The Netscape products on Digital platforms will enable a new group of publishers and merchants to do business on the Internet, once again reaffirming that the Internet is open for business. Digital sees the Internet as a cost effective way to work closely with customers and partners. This includes making Digital's systems available for remote access over the Internet."

"Netscape's software products for the Digital platforms deliver the power of the Internet to a broad set of commercial users," said Marc Andreessen, vice president of technology at Netscape. "Netscape software combined with Digital's worldwide reach and leadership in the Windows NT and OpenVMS environments will enable customers worldwide to communicate or conduct business more effectively within their own company or across the globe."

The Netscape server family includes several products to meet customer requirements: Netscape Communications Server, Netscape Commerce Server, Netscape News Server and Netscape Proxy Server.

A fourth application, called Netscape IStore, is the first of the Netscape Internet Applications aimed at the individual business owner. Netscape IStore provides the integrated data management, online credit card authorization, billing, and order processing capabilities required to build and manage a virtual storefront.
