NOVELL GIVES CUSTOMERS IMMEDIATE INTERNET ACCESS

NOVELL ANNOUNCES STRAGIC AGREEMENT WITH NETSCAPE COMMUNICATIONS TO BUNDLE INTERNET BROWSER TECHNOLOGY

SAN JOSE, California-February 6, 1995- In response to a rapidly developing customer need for Internet access, Novell, Inc. today announced it has signed a strategic agreement with Netscape Communications Corporation to license its Netscape Navigator software for browsing the Internet's World Wide Web. Novell will include this technology in products from its UNIX Systems Group, Novell Applications Group and Information Access Management Group. Novell will announce the first product, Wordperfect Internet Publisher Pro for Windows, this week. The exact terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"This strategic agreement reaffirms Novell's commitment to delivering on the promise of pervasive computing. With Netscape Navigator, the premier Internet browser available today, Novell customers will have the freedom to choose the best Internet services for their individual needs," said Steve Tucker, vice president and general manager, Novell's Advanced Access Applications division. "Novell has a long and successful track record in the information access market; LAN WorkPlace originally released in 1986, is the market leading TCP/IP desktop product for UNIX and Internet access, with shipments to approximately 3 million users worldwide. Novell customers can expect a wide range of product offerings coming from this agreement."

"Novell has long been a leader in enabling users to realize the power of network computing. Now, through its agreement with Netscape, Novell gives users the ability to tap the tremendous potential that a global network -- the Internet -- presents for instant, worldwide communications," said Jim Barksdale, president and CEO of Netscape Communications. "Netscape Navigator's rich features, performance and user experience provide an ideal complement to Novell's strong network software offerings to enable easy online information access and exchange."

Both companies see this agreement as more than a simple licensing agreement; rather it is the beginning of a strong and mutually beneficial working relationship -- setting the foundation for future efforts -- that will help grow the overall information access market. Novell has ongoing development efforts for its own next generation browser technology code named "Ferret" which will expand, and not be impacted, by the Netscape agreement.

Novell recently completed an extensive and thorough examination of commercial Internet browser products before choosing Netscape Navigator. "Its inherent reliability and market leading security features position it today as the best technology and product choice for our customers," said Neil McElwee, director of marketing, Novell's Advanced Access Applications division. "We see Ferret and Netscape Navigator as complementary pieces in Novell's effort to support browser technology. As the Internet access market matures, both offerings will address varied customer needs."
