DYING TO BE ON THE WB? NETSCAPE COMMUNICATIONS AND THE WB NETWORK ANNOUNCE THE 'DEAD LAST'/NETSCAPE WEBMAIL SWEEPSTAKES

First-of-its-Kind Interactive Sweepstakes Offers Participants a Chance to Win a Walk-on Role on The WB Joint Marketing Initiative Showcases The WB's Cutting-Edge Drama, 'Dead Last' and Netscape's Free Web-based e-Mail Product

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and BURBANK, Calif.- August 2, 2001 - Netscape Communications and The WB today announced the launch of the 'Dead Last'/Netscape WebMail Sweepstakes, a joint marketing initiative to showcase The WB's highly anticipated new show, "Dead Last," while promoting the use of Netscape WebMail, Netscape's free, Web-based e-mail product.

Launching two weeks before the August 14th pilot episode of the new WB show, "Dead Last," the joint promotion features an innovative, e-mail-based sweepstakes hosted by Netscape. The contest offers a Grand Prize of a trip for two to Hollywood and a walk-on role on a WB TV show, in addition to other prizes from Warner Bros. and CDNOW.

Created by Steve Pink, D.V. DeVincentis and Patrick O'Neill ("High Fidelity" and "Grosse Pointe Blank"), 'Dead Last' chronicles the misadventures of a fledgling rock band on the verge of being discovered when they accidentally stumble upon a magical amulet that gives them the power to see ghosts -- whether they want to or not. 'Dead Last' airs Tuesdays at 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET.

Bob Bibb and Lewis Goldstein, Co-Presidents, Marketing at The WB Television Network, are enthusiastic in their support of the joint marketing initiative. "'Dead Last' is a perfect fit for a collaboration with Netscape. The WB's young audience uses the Internet to enhance their enjoyment of our mythologies and stories," said Mr. Bibb. Mr. Goldstein continued, "We are always happy when we find unique ways to reach these fans in a television landscape that has become more and more competitive."

"Netscape and The WB are a perfect fit," said Jim Bankoff, President of Netscape Communications. "Like The WB, Netscape attracts a young, media savvy audience. The WB's new show, 'Dead Last,' is a case-in-point. The show is hip, smart, and on-the-edge - exactly the kind of programming that appeals to Netscape's visitors. In addition to our sweepstakes promotion, we're launching a full range of creative, online programming to support the 'Dead Last' show, and in the process, showcasing Netscape's popular Netscape WebMail product. For our visitors, this represents yet another fun, engaging way to get the most out of the compelling mix of tools and content available at Netscape.com."

To enter the 'Dead Last'/Netscape WebMail Sweepstakes, Internet users need simply to visit the 'Dead Last'/Netscape WebMail registration page (http://sweepstakes.netscape.com) and register for a WebMail account, or, if they already have an account, to click on the "Enter the 'Dead Last' Sweepstakes" promotional spots featured prominently throughout the site. Visitors can also register for a free WebMail account by clicking on the "Mail" icon on the Netscape Toolbar, prominently featured on numerous AOL Time Warner Web brands.

Once they have entered, participants will receive a weekly Sweepstakes e-mail starting August 15th containing an interactive game piece relating to characters and events from 'Dead Last'. By simply clicking on the game piece contained in their e-mail, participants will be automatically entered to win the Grand Prize of a walk-on roll on The WB and a trip for two to Hollywood, and will learn whether or not they have won one of hundreds of weekly instant-win prizes. Instant prizes include gift certificates from CDNOW as well as valuable Warner Bros. merchandise and 'Dead Last' memorabilia. The contest ends on September 25, 2001, but participants can register to play up until September 19.

Netscape WebMail is Netscape's free, permanent, Web-based e-mail service that users can access from home, work, and on the road, requiring only an Internet connection. In addition to the Sweepstakes, Netscape is also featuring original programming to support 'Dead Last' on Netscape.com's Entertainment Channel. The interactive features include screen savers, message boards and polls centering on themes central to 'Dead Last' - music, fame and the supernatural. TheWB.com (http://www.thewb.com) will also feature interactive, rich media content including 'Dead Last' cast information, video clips and message boards. WarnerBros.com (http://www.warnerbros.com) will also feature 'Dead Last' promotions and links to the Sweepstakes entry page.
