NETSCAPE ANNOUNCES JOB INTERVIEW SURVIVAL CONTEST

New Promotion Lets Netscape Visitors Turn Their Interview Tales of Woe into a Winning Opportunity

Netscape Launches "Networking For Success" Area, Providing Powerful Interactive Tools for Job Seekers

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - April 04, 2001 - Netscape Communications, a subsidiary of AOL, Inc. (NYSE: AOL), today announced "The Ultimate Interview Survival Contest," where users are invited to post their most disastrous job interview stories for a chance to win an Ultimate Interview Survival Kit. And to help prevent recurring job interview nightmares, Netscape also announced the launch of its "Networking for Success" area on Netscape.com -- a new, one-stop resource that brings together powerful online content and web-based applications to make job hunting a snap.

Ultimate Interview Survival Contest:

Entering the Interview Survival Contest is easy: Just visit Netscape's Careers area on the Netscape.com home page (http://www.netscape.com) and click on the "Ultimate Interview Survival" link. Visitors can both post their story and view other tales of woe ranging from the embarrassing to the bizarre. The top ten Interview Nightmares, as judged by Netscape's panel of experts, will win a computer backpack chock full of interview necessities including a jumbo bottle of Maalox, a container of breath mints and a $50 gift certificate to Starbucks. One Grand Prize winner will receive a Bose Wave Radio/CD player and a relaxation CD. The contest runs through May 31.

Netscape's "Interview Survival" message board is already buzzing with nightmarish tales from the trenches. Highlights include:

  • Touting the Wrong Company: This candidate tried to impress his prospective employer by confidently spewing facts about the company that he had carefully researched. Unfortunately, he got confused and displayed his knowledge about the company's main competitor.
  • Clean Up in Aisle Six: While interviewing for a position at a toy store, this candidate was asked if he would be willing to clean up vomit - apparently a common occurrence in toy stores. When the eager job candidate enthusiastically responded "no problem," he was immediately asked to mop up a fresh puddle in the Lego aisle.
  • Full of Hot Air: Just as this candidate stood up to thank the interviewer for his time he passed the loudest gas in his life. Not surprisingly, he didn't get the job … though he was never quite sure whether to chalk it up to fate or the fart.
  • Gave 'em a Show: This candidate thought she had just aced an interview for the job of her dreams, until she got into her car and realized that she had revealed more of herself than originally intended -- her pants zipper had been gaping open, exposing her pantyhose during the entire interview.

Networking for Success:

To help interviewees succeed, Netscape.com also announced the launch of its "Networking For Success" area, located in Netscape Careers. Featuring Netscape web-based applications such as Web Mail, Web Calendar and Instant Messenger, the package is designed to help job seekers network their way to a new career by providing them with tools to keep their job search focused, effective and organized - all from one convenient location.

Netscape's web-based applications are a useful tool that can be used to streamline the job seeking process. For instance, by setting up a free, Web-based e-mail account with Netscape Web Mail, job seekers can keep track of important correspondence from potential employers via any Internet-connected PC. Netscape Search is the perfect tool for researching potential employers or for gathering industry facts to impress an interviewer with up-to-date, insightful knowledge. Netscape's Instant Messenger allows for instantaneous communication with contacts in situations where the telephone just won't do. And community-based tools such as Netscape's Message Boards and Chat Rooms offer a way to connect with other job seekers to generate leads, trade tips and get the latest employment trends and news. What's more, Netscape WebCalendar lets job seekers keep track of employment fairs, upcoming interviews and networking events.

Netscape's Careers area provides resources to research, interview, negotiate and obtain a new and rewarding career all from one convenient Web-destination. By combining this information with direct access to over 450,000 different career opportunities from Monster.com, Netscape helps match users with their dream job while providing the expert advice they need to seal the deal.

Jim Bankoff, President of Netscape Communications, said, "Netscape is offering everything that today's serious job seeker needs to land the career they've always wanted. With special content, research and interactive tools, the Careers area on Netscape is a smart resource for anyone who is looking for a new job. And judging from some of the hilarious horror stories posted on our Interview Survival Contest message board, job-seekers these days need all the help they can get."
