Netscape and 3Com Deliver Wireless Messaging for New Palm VII Connected Organizer
(December 2, 1998) Netscape and 3Com announced they will deliver wireless Internet messaging service for the new Palm VII connected organizer. 3Com is using Netscape Messaging Server Hosting Edition software and Netscape Directory Server software to provide massively scalable, Internet standards-based messaging to the thousands of people expected to use the new device. The two-way wireless messaging service is scheduled to be available in an initial field trial early in 1999, with commercial availability later in the year.

America Online to Acquire Netscape Communications in Stock Transaction Valued at $4.2 Billion
(November 24, 1998) America Online announced that it will acquire Netscape in a transaction that will extend America Online's leadership in interactive services. The stock-for-stock, pooling-of-interests transaction, in which stockholders of Netscape will receive 0.45 shares of AOL common stock for each share of Netscape common stock, is valued at $4.2 billion. It is expected to close in the spring of 1999. Netscape's operations will remain in Mountain View.

America Online and Sun Microsystems Form Strategic Alliance
(November 24, 1998) AOL and Sun announced that they have entered into a strategic alliance to accelerate enterprise e-commerce growth, and to use Sun's Java technology to help Internet users access America Online from anywhere, anytime. AOL and Sun will work together to help companies and ISPs enter the e-commerce market and scale those operations. Sun will become a lead systems and service provider to AOL, which has committed to purchase systems and services worth $500 million from Sun through 2002 for its e-commerce partners and its own use.

Netscape Reports Record Revenue of $162 Million for Fourth Quarter Ending October 31, 1998
(November 23, 1998) Netscape reported record company revenue of $162.0 million for the quarter ended October 31, 1998, an eight-percent increase over the $150.2 million in revenue during the quarter ended July 31, 1998. The company reported operating income of $0.9 million for the quarter ended October 31,1998, as compared to an operating loss of $2.1 million for the preceding quarter ended July 31, 1998.

Netscape Communicator 4.5 Now Shipping in Eight Languages
(November 18, 1998) Netscape announced that it is shipping seven international versions of the highly acclaimed Netscape Communicator 4.5 browser suite, less than thirty days after the English release. The French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish and Japanese versions are ready for download and have the potential to reach more than 50 million people worldwide.
